Korpo Jazz Academy

21.7.2026

Under the banner of the Korpo Jazz Academy, we are inviting two young jazz students to the Korpo Sea Jazz festival to listen to experienced musicians in concert, perform in jam sessions, and network with established jazz artists.
This marks the first year we have included this initiative in the association’s program.
We extend a warm welcome to Daniel Sjöroos and Aleksi Hartelin at Korpo Sea Jazz!

Daniel Sjöroos, 20, is a jazz guitarist from Turku currently in his final year of the professional pop/jazz program at the Turku Conservatory. He is also a student at Puolalanmäki Upper Secondary School, specializing in music, and is set to graduate in the spring of 2026.
Sjöroos’s playing combines a respect for tradition with expressive interpretation. He is drawn to jazz by the spontaneity of improvisation, melodic interpretation, and the richness of playing together with others.
Key influences on this rising young guitarist include Pat Metheny, Jim Hall, Jonathan Kreisberg, Stochelo Rosenberg, and Barney Kessel.
Sjöroos performs in a variety of ensembles, such as the Flame Jazz All Stars, Sjöroos/Kajamies/Huhtala, the Sumu Big Band, and the Aleksi Hartelin Quintet. In addition to ensemble work, he also performs as a soloist, showcasing the vast harmonic and rhythmic possibilities of solo guitar playing.

Aleksi Hartelin, 21, is a jazz pianist originally from Turku who is currently in his second year of studies at the Turku Conservatory. While he performs in a variety of ensembles, his heart lies particularly with improvised music.
He is drawn to jazz by the combination of beautiful melodies and rich harmonies on the one hand, and the beauty of simplicity on the other. Musicians who have inspired him include Emmet Cohen, whose playing highlights the versatility of ensemble interaction; other notable influences include Keith Jarrett, Joe Sample, and Bill Evans.
Hartelin performs regularly with the SUMU Big Band, Flame Jazz Club All Stars, Kissojen yö, and the Aleksi Hartelin Trio/Quintet. In addition, he composes and arranges music—including works for larger ensembles.
