Anssi Tirkkonen & Severi Sorjonen: the Pulse of the Forest

Korppoo Sea Jazz serves something very special this summer when these two masters of percussion instruments put drumsticks together and perform a rare duo concert of two drum sets, in the middle of the forest! There will be an irresistible groove and celebration of rhythm!

Anssi Tirkkonen is one of Finland’s most prominent young jazz drummers. Tirkkonen’s work has been heard in jazz groups such as Joonas Tuuri Quartet and Max Zenger Globus, as well as in the ranks of Game Music Collective which creates music for computer games. In 2019, Tirkkonen was selected as a young soloist of the UMO Jazz Orchestra and he has been involved in winning the EBU Euroradio Jazz Competition main prize in 2018 and the 2014 Young Nordic Jazz Comets competition. He has a master’s degree in jazz music from the Sibelius Academy.

Severi Sorjonen is also one of Finland’s most significant young percussion instumentalists and artists. This young drum comet has become known for example from the Maja Mannila Trio, Peela and Iiro Rantala Flock. Sorjonen is currently studying in the jazz music department of the Sibelius Academy.
